Double Olympic bronze-winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington is to be honoured with a party in her Nottinghamshire home town.

Mansfield's Market Place will host the event on 11 September to celebrate the 23-year-old's London 2012 achievements.

Adlington picked up bronze medals in the 400m and 800m freestyle events.

The homecoming will also honour the town's Paralympics swimming hopefuls Charlotte Henshaw and brothers Sam and Oliver Hynd.

All four athletes will appear on stage at the party, which will also feature Olympics and Paralympics-themed activities as well as sporting footage on a big screen.

Mayor of Mansfield Tony Egginton said: "This event provides the ideal opportunity for everyone from the district and the surrounding area to come together to celebrate the achievements of our local athletes and show our pride and appreciation for all their hard work."

Mansfield District Council said more information about the event would be released in the next few weeks.
