The husband of a mother-of-two killed in a car crash has paid tribute to "the best mum in the world".

Anne Brooks, 50, from Cropwell Butler, Nottinghamshire, was taking her children to school when the car left the road, crashing in to a ditch in Swab's Lane, Owthorpe.

She was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday but her seven-year-old son and four-year-old daughter were unhurt.

Jon Brooks said he would miss her "more than words can express".

'Number one fan'

Mrs Brooks crashed her grey Volkswagen Golf at about 09:00 GMT.

In a statement, Mr Brooks said: "Anne was the best mum, wife and friend in the world.

"This incident has meant that the biggest part of me has been taken away.

"Anne was my number one fan, who believed in me and made me the person I am today, I will miss her more than words can express."

Investigating officers said they do not believe any other vehicle was involved but are keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash or the car before the collision.
