A woman has been found dead and a man injured at a farmhouse in Nottinghamshire.

Police said paramedics were called to Low Farm in Maplebeck on Friday. The woman was pronounced dead and the man was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The death is being treated as suspicious.

The pair have not yet been formally identified, but are believed to be in their seventies.

Officers said the results of a post-mortem examination were expected later, and a cordon remains in place at the scene.

The ambulance service alerted police to the death at the property in the village near Southwell just before 16:00 GMT.

Det Ch Insp Tony Heydon said: "We have been conducting inquiries in and around the farmhouse and those inquiries will continue.

"Our thoughts are with the couple's family and the residents of this very small village."
