A Nottingham tram line will be closed for two weeks while tracks at a major crossing are upgraded.

As part of the city's £570m tram project - which will see two new lines built - the loop line between The Forest and Wilkinson Street will be improved.

The crossing at Noel Street in Hyson Green will also be upgraded as part of the work.

Buses will replace trams on the loop while work is carried out.

Paul Robinson, general manager of Nottingham Express Transit (NET), said: "The maintenance is essential and we've taken the opportunity to upgrade the crossing in an effort to reduce noise and to get the track ready for a significant increase in service frequencies during the next couple of years.

"It is all part of the build up to the expansion of the network with the two new lines to Chilwell and Clifton being opened at the end of 2014."

The loop line service is set to resume as normal from Monday 15 April.
