Teenage cyclist critical after A617 collision

A cyclist is in a critical condition following a collision with a car.

The crash happened near Cauldwell Wood, on the A617 in Sutton-on-Ashfield, just before 13:30 BST.

The cyclist, a 14-year-old boy, was air-lifted to Nottingham's Queen Medical Centre with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the 72-year-old driver of the car, a Honda Jazz, was shaken but unharmed. No-one else was injured in the crash.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said the road was expected to remain closed in both directions between the A60 and Hamilton Road for a number of hours.

Officers have urged witnesses to come forward.
