A woman accused of murdering her seven-year-old niece now faces charges of cruelty to other children.

Kay-Ann Morris, 24, is charged with killing Shanay Walker, who was found dead at a house in Nottingham's Bestwood Park area, in July.

Ms Morris, of Beckhampton Road, is now accused of cruelty to Shanay, in 2012, along with the same charge against two other children, in 2011.

Shanay had suffered a fatal head injury, post-mortem tests showed.

A second woman, Juanila Smikle, 53, has also been charged with cruelty towards the girl, between 2012 and this year.

Both women were charged by Nottinghamshire Police, on Thursday.

Ms Smikle, 53, has also been charged with cruelty to four other children, dating back to 2011.

Ms Smikle, of Easegill Court in Top Valley, Nottingham, is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court later.

Ms Morris is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 19 December.
