A healthcare assistant has been charged with committing a string of rapes and sexual assaults at a mental health unit.

Robert Roberts is accused of carrying out the attacks at the Millbrook Mental Health Unit, at King's Mill Hospital in Mansfield, in 2014.

He is charged with 14 counts of sexual assault and two of rape.

The 59-year-old, of Hathersage Way, Sutton in Ashfield, is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 25 July.

Millbrook Mental Health Unit is run by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

A trust statement said Roberts was suspended and "subsequently resigned from employment".
