Oxford flats fire believed to be arson

A fire in an Oxford tower block is being treated as arson.

Some 30 firefighters were called to the blaze at the 14-storey high Plowman's Tower on Westlands Drive in Headington shortly after midnight on Sunday.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and released on bail until 30 June.

Thames Valley Police said the fire was believed to have started in the front-door area of a flat.

The tower block was evacuated and about 100 residents were kept out for two hours while the flames were put out and the building was ventilated.

A woman who was asleep in the flat was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
