Drivers on the A41 near Bicester speeding despite warnings

Dozens of drivers have been caught speeding near roadworks on the A41 in Oxfordshire despite warnings following a spate of serious accidents.

Thames Valley Police said 75 people were stopped after exceeding the 40mph limit on the road near Bicester during checks over four hours last week.

The highest speed recorded during the checks on Monday and Friday was 84mph.

Two serious collisions and several minor injury accidents have occurred on the A41 in recent weeks.

Ten days ago South Central Ambulance Service said it had attended seven collisions along the stretch between Bicester and the A34 since roadworks began there nine weeks ago.

It urged drivers to adhere to the speed limit and drive to the road conditions.

The work on the A41 involves creating a number of new roundabouts, junctions and access road to a new housing estate south west of the town. It is set to be completed by mid-July.
