Man arrested over sex attack in wood in Berinsfield

A 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man who tried to drag her into bushes as she walked through a wood in an Oxfordshire village.

The victim was grabbed from behind by the attacker as she made her way to the bus stop in Shadwell Road, Berinsfield, on Wednesday morning.

She managed to break free and ran away along the footpath back towards Berinsfield, police said.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Det Sgt Craig Burchall, of Thames Valley Police, said: "Thankfully the woman was uninjured in the assault, but is understandably very shaken by what has happened.

"This sort of attack in broad daylight is very rare and officers from the local neighbourhood team will be in the area today to speak with local residents and offer reassurance."

Anyone with information about the attack, which happened at about 11:15 BST, is asked to contact Thames Valley Police.
