Security guard robbed of cash box in Oxfordshire

A security guard was attacked and robbed as he collected money from a sports centre in Oxfordshire.

The 54-year-old victim was leaving Abbey Sports Centre in Green Furlong when he was assaulted by two men on Tuesday, suffering a bruised arm.

The attackers grabbed the cash box and ran off across nearby playing fields.

Both robbers were white and in their early 20s. One was wearing a straw trilby hat, big sunglasses and had a yellow towel around his shoulders.

His accomplice was wearing a grey hooded top.

Det Con Vicky Roberts, from Thames Valley Police, said: "We believe that the offenders may have fled the area in an old style silver Ford Fiesta and we are keen to trace this vehicle."

"The cash box contains red dye which will go over the offenders if they try to force it open.

"We do not believe that any weapons were used in the incident."

There may have been two other people in the getaway car, police said.

Anyone with any information about the robbery, which took place at about midday, has been asked to contact Thames Valley Police.
