Grenade exploded in village field near Oxford

A controlled explosion was carried out after a grenade was found in a field in Cumnor near Oxford.

Thames Valley Police's bomb disposal team was called after the device was found in farmland off Hurst Lane in the village.

A spokesman said the "old grenade" was discovered on Wednesday evening by a woman metal detecting.

The area was sealed off on Thursday lunchtime but has now been declared safe.
