Death of woman found on roadside near Faringdon investigated

An 81-year-old woman has died after being found on a roadside grass verge in Oxfordshire.

The woman had been seen walking from the BP service station towards Buckland crossroads on the A420 near Faringdon, at about 16:05 BST on Tuesday.

She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but died later.

Police are unclear whether the woman was struck by a vehicle, suffered a fall or became ill. A post-mortem examination is being carried out.

The A420 was closed for two hours while police examined the scene.
