Christ Church Abingdon in four-day Bible reading

The congregation of an Oxfordshire church is spending four days continuously reading the Bible to celebrate the church's 50th year.

Christ Church Abingdon was established in a medieval tithe barn by the north Abingdon parish curate John Moore.

Mr Moor started the reading at 10:00 BST on Wednesday.

Local MP Nicola Blackwood, the mayor of Abingdon Michael Badcock and the Bishop of Reading the Rt Rev Colin Fletcher will also take part.

Churchwarden Janice Gordon said it was a great occasion that would involve the whole congregation.

"It's always a church that seeks to be a part of the community so it's good to be reaching out and serving others," she added.

The read is due to finish at 17:00 BST on Saturday.
