Man jailed over Caversham homeless murder

A 35-year-old has been jailed for the murder of a homeless man in Berkshire.

The body of Damian Whyte, 33, was discovered with stab wounds at View Island in Caversham on 23 February.

Alan Levey, formerly of Southampton Street, Reading, pleaded guilty at Reading Crown Court on Monday to murder.

Earlier, at the same court, he was jailed for life and told he must serve a minimum of 24 years in jail.

After sentencing, senior investigating officer Det Supt Stan Gilmour said: "I know that this conviction is a great relief to Damian's family and trust that the completion of these court proceeding will provide his family and friends with some measure of closure."
