Gunman steals money from Oxford bookmakers

A masked gunman threatened a worker at a bookmakers in Oxford before fleeing with money.

The member of staff was closing up when he was approached by the robber outside the Stan James branch in Roundway, Risinghurst, on Tuesday night.

The 47-year-old victim was ordered to go back into the shop and forced to remove an undisclosed amount of money from the safe.

Police said it was a "frightening experience" for the worker.

Det Sgt Kevin Parsons, from Oxford CID, said: "Officers attended the scene quickly and carried out a search of the surrounding area but the offender was not located.

"This was obviously a frightening experience for the victim who was just locking up the shop when he was threatened by the offender."

The raider was described as black and about 6ft and had a thin scarf over his face.
