Crash cuts off Five Acres School's electricity

A primary school in Oxfordshire has closed after a parent dropping off a child crashed into an electricity pole.

The accident short-circuited the power supply to Five Acres primary in Ambrosden and some of the rest of the village.

Head teacher Darrell Wood said: "It was really quite a loud bang and a lot of smoke and sparks.

"People that were in the car park at the time when the short circuit happened were quite traumatised by it."

Mr Wood said he believed the parent was unharmed and had managed to drive away.

The school is hoping to open on Tuesday, although Mr Wood said there was no point trying to phone for information.

"It's really just look at our website and listen to the radio because you can't phone the school because it's got no power."
