The Sport Relief Mile will return to Oxford next year after it was confirmed as one of the cities to host the event.

The Oxford Sport Relief Mile will set off from Cutteslowe Park on 25 March.

Competitors, who are invited to take part in one, three or six-mile routes, can apply online on the Sport Relief website at www.sportrelief.com

Oxford City Council's board member for parks and sports Mark Lygo urged anyone wanting to take part to apply quickly as only 600 places were available.

Mr Lygo said: "You don't have to be an elite athlete or marathon runner to take part in this run.

"Money raised through sponsorship goes towards a very good cause so I would encourage everyone to download a sponsorship form now and get your family, friends, teachers and colleagues to raid their piggy banks and sponsor you."

Entry is £6 for adults, £3 for children and £15 for a family (two adults and two children).

The Sport Relief Mile raised £20,723 when it was last held in the city in 2010, with 591 competitors taking part.
