Christmas trees to be recycled free in West Oxfordshire

Householders in West Oxfordshire can leave their Christmas trees outside their homes and get them recycled free of charge.

From 16 January, the council will collect real Christmas trees as part of normal collections.

Residents can leave the trees, without decorations, in their garden waste bin or at the kerbside.

They do not need to be signed up for the council's optional garden waste service to have their tree collected.

Councillor David Harvey, cabinet member for environment at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: "With over 8 million real Christmas trees expected to be bought in the UK this year, it's important that we recycle as many of these as possible."

All collected trees will be turned into compost along with other garden waste collected, he said.
