A man is in a serious condition after being stabbed several times in the arm and stomach in Oxford.

The victim, 22, was found by friends in Temple Street at about 01:30 GMT but police think he may have staggered there after being attacked elsewhere.

He had suffered serious injuries and has been undergoing surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Police want to talk to anyone who was out in the east Oxford area overnight and saw or heard anything suspicious.

Det Ch Insp Paul Hayles said: "The man was discovered by two friends in Temple Street. However, we do not believe that this is where the incident happened.

"The suggestion at this time is that the man was injured half-an-hour earlier at another location and made his way to Temple Street where he was discovered.

"At this time inquiries are on-going to establish where this location was and we have a team of detectives reviewing CCTV footage from the area and out doing door-to-door inquiries."
