Four arrested in Oxfordshire restaurant raids by UKBA

Four Bangladeshi men have been arrested by the UK Border Agency following raids on two Oxfordshire restaurants.

Officers visited the Voujon restaurant and the Jaypur Balti Cuisine in Banbury, and questioned staff if they had the right to work in the UK.

A 22-year-old man was held for using a false passport as identity to gain work in the Voujon Restaurant.

Two were arrested for overstaying their visas, and one held for entering the UK illegally at the Jaypur restaurant.

Caught fleeing

The man who had entered the UK illegally was caught trying to flee from the restaurant through the back door.

It later emerged the 22-year-old was in breach of his genuine student visa conditions and he has been detained pending his removal from the UK.

The restaurants now face a fine of up to £10,000 for each illegal worker unless they can prove that the correct checks were carried out.

The raids were carried out on Wednesday evening.
