Work delayed on Aldermaston railway bridges

The opening of two railway bridges in Berkshire has been delayed after engineers discovered structural problems.

The A340 bridge was due to open on 12 May and the Beenham Lockside Crescent bridge was due to open on 5 July.

Network Rail has apologised and said the bridges in Aldermaston would now reopen in September.

The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, which runs a visitor centre not far from the A340 bridge, criticised the delay.

Spokesman Marcus Sangwell said: "We just do not get any passing trade now whatsoever and I would estimate our business to be 60% down now."
