Bridge Farm quarry in Sutton Courtenay extension plan

A construction company has submitted a planning application to extend work at a quarry in Oxfordshire by five years.

Hanson Quarry Products Ltd wants to extract limestone at the Bridge Farm site in Sutton Courtenay until 2017.

A spokesman for the company said the site still had useable materials but the economic downturn had slowed down operations there.

Callum MacKenzie, from Sutton Courtenay Action Group, said he would not welcome the extension.

He added: "We have been putting up with this work in the village as they endlessly persist to try to find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

"It means dealing with more noise, smell, dust and other pollutants."

The company spokesman said it had made "business sense" not to extract the materials while the demand was not there.

He added that the original deadline did not leave the company enough time to restore the land when work was completed.

"The environmental impact will not change, only the completion date," he said.
