Woman sexually assaulted in late-night park attack

A 46-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in a park as she walked home from a night out.

The victim was followed by a man who dragged her to the ground and tried to undo her belt in People's Park, Banbury, in the early hours.

The attacker, who had pursued the woman from a taxi rank in the town, fled the scene after the woman screamed.

The man is white, aged in his 20s and 5ft 6in. He wore jeans and a woolly hat or baseball cap.

Detectives described the incident as "distressing" and reassured residents they are doing all they can to catch the attacker.

Det Con Joe Stevenson, of Thames Valley Police, said: "Fortunately the man ran away when the woman screamed.

"I urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has information to help the police investigation, to contact the police."
