Girl attacked during attempted dognapping in Banbury

An 11-year-old girl has been attacked in the street by a man who tried to take her dog.

The girl was hit in the chest by the man at about 16:25 BST on Wednesday outside Bradley Arcade in Bretch Hill, Banbury, Oxfordshire, police said.

He is described as over 6ft, of medium build, 55 to 60 years old, with grey hair and a bald patch.

Police said he got out of a black car, walked to the girl and her nine-year-old brother, and stroked their dog.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "The offender then struck the girl in the chest with the back of his hand and tugged the dog's lead.

"Another child, an 11-year-old boy, came out of a nearby shop and the man got into his car, before driving towards Prescott Avenue.

"The offender was clean shaven and was wearing baggy black jeans, a grey parka-style coat and black shoes."
