Shiplake kayaker drowned, tests confirm

A kayaker who was found in the River Thames in Oxfordshire drowned, a post-mortem examination has confirmed.

The man in his 40s was discovered by Shiplake Lock just after 15:00 BST on Saturday 1 June.

The member of the Wargrave Boating Club in Berkshire was pronounced dead at Royal Berkshire Hospital the same day.

An inquest at the Oxfordshire Coronor's Office was opened and adjourned while police complete "some further enquiries on behalf of the coroner".

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

The Berkshire club said its "thoughts and prayers" were with the family.
