The parents of an Oxford University student found dead in a tent on an Oxford meadow have described him as a "kind young man".

A passer-by discovered the body of Andrew Kirkman, 20, while walking in Port Meadow, Wolvercote, on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said Mr Kirkman's death was "unexplained" although there were no suspicious circumstances.

The family statement said Mr Kirkman "took great pleasure in helping other people".

It added: "Andy was loved by everyone who knew him... he will be sorely missed."

Mr Kirkman, from Watford, was a second year undergraduate at Balliol College studying Physics and Philosophy.

Sir Drummond Bone, master of the college, described his "deep sadness" at the news.

He said: "Our thoughts and condolences go out to Andrew's parents and his family and close friends at this extremely difficult time.

"Andrew was a friendly and thoughtful student and a valued contributor to the life of the college."
