Fire has ripped through a waste centre in Oxfordshire, sending palls of thick black smoke into the air.

A 200-metre cordon was put up around Grundons waste disposal facility at Ewelme, near Wallingford, after fire broke out on Saturday evening.

Residents in and around Nettlebed and Sonning Common were told to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

It took ten crews four hours to bring the fire under control.

A building near the site was also evacuated and people were advised to avoid the area.

The fire service said there were no issues with contamination and the cause of the blaze was under investigation.

Crews and police remain at the site.
