Oxfordshire police and fire service home safety pilot

Police and fire services in Oxfordshire are to work together in a new "advice sharing" scheme.

The pilot will see Thames Valley Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and firefighters offering both fire safety and crime prevention advice during home visits.

PCSOs will be trained to spot fire-related risks while firefighters will receive training in home security.

The scheme, which starts in Carterton, will run for six months.

During that time the pilot will be monitored to judge its success, before a decision is made on its long-term future.

Dave Etheridge, chief fire officer at Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service, said the scheme would provide an "improved service".

"By combining fire safety and home security advice, we can provide important community safety messages in an effective, seamless way that makes the best use of resources."
