Man sought after stab attack in Shrewsbury town centre

A man is being sought after a 22-year-old man was stabbed in the chest in a Shropshire town.

Luke Rawlings is in a stable condition after the attack in the Mardol area of Shrewsbury town centre, the hospital treating him said.

The man being sought was seen running from the area after the incident at about 2150 BST on Sunday, police said.

He is white, about 5ft 7in and of medium build and was wearing a blue or grey shirt and jeans.

He was seen running in Carnarvon Lane and across Hills Lane towards The Bellstone pub in Barker Street.

'Serious incident'

Det Insp Sarah Wagstaff said Mr Rawlings was very lucky to be alive.

"He can sit up and talk now but it could have been very different," she said.

"We could have been looking at a murder investigation."

A number of witnesses had come forward but she believed the stabbing was seen by others.

"This was a serious incident and it's vital we speak to everyone who saw any part of the assault or the circumstances leading up to it."

Det Insp Wagstaff said it is believed the man who stabbed Mr Rawlings was with two other men at the time of the attack.
