Alert over suspect package at RAF Cosford

A suspect passage was found at RAF Cosford in Shropshire, prompting a security alert.

A 200m cordon was set up as a precautionary measure, West Mercia Police said.

It later said officers from the army bomb disposal team attended at 1845 BST and found the package to be nothing of a suspicious nature.

The A41, which runs near the camp, was closed and diversions set up, but roads later reopened.

Both military and civilian police were dealing with the package that was found within the camp at just after 1530 BST on Tuesday.

West Mercia Police said on Tuesday evening that it would like to apologise for any inconvenience, but would stress the need to "take these matters extremely seriously".
