Telford tennis site set for April opening

A new £2.2m community tennis centre in Shropshire is to open to the public next month.

The indoor and outdoor facility has been scheduled to open on 6 April at the Oakengates Leisure Centre site in Telford. Work started last summer.

The eight courts represent the first part of a scheme to create Oakengates Sports and Learning Community, a school with community facilities.

It will replace Sutherland Business and Enterprise College in Trench.

The new tennis centre includes four floodlit outdoor and four indoor courts.

It has been funded by Telford & Wrekin Council, the Department for Education, and the Lawn Tennis Association.
