Shrewsbury schools to benefit from 20mph zones

A 20mph speed limit will be introduced outside three schools in Shropshire as part of a council school travel plan.

York Road in Shrewsbury will have its speed limit reduced by 10mph from Wednesday.

The council said the new limit would be safer for pupils attending the nearby Greenacres Primary School and the Grange primary and secondary schools.

It said about 900 pupils attended the three schools and 82% of them walked or cycled to school.

Malcolm Price, Shropshire Council's cabinet member for transport, said the lower speed limit was part of its Safer Routes to School strategy and would hopefully encourage even more parents and children to walk and cycle to school.

Primary school pupils from Greenacres and the Grange helped to design road signs to remind road users of the new limit.
