Shropshire crashes: two men dead and another injured

Two motorcyclists have died in separate collisions in Shropshire.

A 48-year-old man died in hospital on Monday after his motorcycle and a car collided on the A488 between Shrewsbury and Bishop's Castle on Sunday.

On the same day a 53-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle was in a crash with another motorcycle on the A4117 at Henley, near Ludlow.

The rider of the second motorbike was taken to hospital with suspected spinal, shoulder and head injuries.

The crash happened near Ludlow shortly before 1245 BST.

The man who died was riding a bronze-coloured Honda. The other bike was a black Kawasaki and was travelling in the opposite direction.

'Serious injuries'

The motorbike and car collision was just before 1300 BST between Lydham and the turning for Churchstoke.

A black Aprilia motorcycle travelling north towards Shrewsbury was in a collision with a blue Citroen Xantia 1.9 travelling in the opposite direction.

The fatally-injured motorcyclist was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances of both crashes and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "We are anxious to hear from anyone who either saw the actual collisions, or the circumstances leading up to them.

"Anyone with information which might assist the police should contact Shrewsbury police."

The two men who died have yet to be formally named.
