Woman raped in Madeley woodland on night out

A woman has been raped in some Shropshire woods following a night out.

The woman was returning from a night out in Madeley, Telford, when she was attacked near Hills Lane Drive, between 0210 BST and 0310 BST on Saturday.

Immediately after, the victim returned to Madeley High Street where she sought help and reported the attack to police.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and bailed. Officers want to hear from anyone who was approached by the victim on Saturday.

Det Sgt Dafydd Jones, of West Mercia Police, said the victim had asked to borrow a lighter from a man and a woman who were sat on a bench on the Cuckoo Oak roundabout next to Prince Street between 0215 BST and 0245 BST on Saturday.

'Important witnesses'

He described the people on the bench as being white and in their early-20s. The woman had blonde hair and was wearing an animal print top, he added.

The victim also approached a woman in a burgundy-coloured vehicle in Madeley High Street. She knocked on the window and then continued up the high street.

Det Sgt Jones said: "We are keen to speak to these three individuals as they are potentially very important witnesses in this case."
