Money awarded for Shropshire councils' transport plans

Two councils in Shropshire are to receive government money totalling about £8.5m to encourage people to leave their cars at home .

Shropshire Council was awarded £5m and Telford and Wrekin Council £3.5m.

Telford and Wrekin's bid included creating safer conditions for cyclists and pedestrians, but said it did not know which had been successful.

Money was awarded to Shropshire Council to improve things like walking, cycling and public transport.

The authority said it wanted to particularly focus on Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Ludlow.
