A Shropshire school has been awarded £9m for a programme of improvements.

Burton Borough Secondary School, in Newport, aims to begin work on the repairs in 2012.

Money from the Building Schools for the Future scheme and will be spent on replacing the school's 1950s heating system, old doors and windows.

Head teacher Dave Hill said he would be consulting pupils, staff and their parents about the final plans before work began.

Mr Hill said the tennis courts would replaced with a new teaching block which would improve the frontage and security of the school.
