Shrewsbury charity shops targeted by thieves

Two charity shops have been broken into in Shrewsbury, in Shropshire, with thieves stealing cash and a number of items in the burglaries.

The Scope charity shop, in Claremont Street, and the Marie Curie Cancer Care premises, in Mardol, were broken into on Wednesday night.

Staff discovered the break-ins when they arrived for work on Thursday.

Entry in both burglaries was gained by forcing windows, resulting in a total of about £600 damage.

The shop and office areas were searched and several items stolen, including a small amount of cash and a Kenwood CB Radio.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "These two incidents are being linked and we are appealing for information from anyone who spotted people acting suspiciously in the Claremont Street and Mardol area overnight.

"We are also advising all business premises in the town, including charity shops, to check their security and make improvements where possible."

Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers.
