Telford sex ring: Girl claims she was asked to marry

An alleged victim in a Shropshire sex exploitation trial has told a jury one of the defendants wanted her to "marry" a man so he could steal money from him.

The girl, who is now aged 17, claimed Ahdel Ali told her and another girl that if they lived with two Ghanaian men they would be paid £500 each.

Details of the plot were given by the girl in DVD recordings of interviews with police from December 2009.

They were played to the jury when the trial resumed at Stafford Crown Court.

Sexual grooming

The girl was the fourth of the seven alleged victims to give evidence in the trial in which seven Telford men deny more than 50 allegations relating to sexual exploitation and child prostitution.

Mr Ali, 23, of Regent Street, Wellington, denies a total of 20 charges which include two allegations of sexual grooming of the teenage witness more than two years ago.

He also denies two allegations of inciting the teenager to prostitution when she was aged 15 between January and September 2009.

At court on Tuesday the girl, who is eight months pregnant and cannot be named for legal reasons, was in the witness box as the first of her interviews was seen by the court.

She told police that it was Mr Ali, who she knew as Eddie, who asked her and the other young girl, who was 12, if they "wanted to do this job" with the Ghanaian men.

"He said: 'You have to pretend and stay away from your home for two months and be with the man and sleep with him and stuff and pretend you are actually married to him'," the witness told police.

False papers

She claimed Mr Ali said she had to get all the man's papers and to look for bank statements and any money while she was living with him.

The witness said Mr Ali said he would get a total of £3,000 for saying he would get the man false papers, but was going to steal from him at a house in Regent Street in Wellington.

The jury heard the witness told police Mr Ali knew she was 15 at the time because she had told him her age.

The other six defendants in the trial are Mohammed Ali Sultan, 24, Noshad Hussain, 21, Mubarek Ali, 28, Tanveer Ahmed, 39, Mahroof Khan, 33, and Mohammed Islam Choudhrey, 52.

The men live in the Wellington and Sutton Hill areas of Telford and deny charges related to incidents alleged to have happened between 2007 and 2009.

The trial continues.
