Free health checks combined with dance classes

Residents in Shropshire who enrol for a free dance class will be given a free health check and dietary advice, under council health plans.

Telford & Wrekin Council is offering residents the chance to take part in weekly Zumba classes as part of a lottery funded sports project.

The six week course at Stirchley Recreation Centre is designed to encourage people to take up exercise.

In addition participants will be assessed by a council health trainer.

The classes run from 18:00 BST and are open to residents aged from 16 to 25 years old who want to start exercising.

Councillor Arnold England, cabinet member for leisure and well-being, said: "Being able to combine a fun and interesting exercise class such as Zumba with health checks for those who come to the course is superb.

"It's this kind of joined up approach to health and fitness that can lead to real lifestyle changes for the residents of Telford and Wrekin and let them fully appreciate the long term benefits of regular exercise."
