Giant straw bales are stolen from fields around Knockin

More than 100 giant bales of straw valued at up to £4,000 have been stolen from three fields in the Knockin area near Oswestry.

In all three incidents the bales had been stacked in piles of 36 ready to be taken away for storage.

Police say a tractor with a front loader and a trailer would have been needed to carry the bales away.

The incidents happened between 18 August and 29 August and in each case the field was in an isolated location.

The first incident was from a field down a track at Osbaston. This was followed by two further thefts from fields at Sandford near West Felton and near the satellite dish at Knockin.

A spokesman from West Mercia Police said: All three locations involved are isolated. We are appealing for information which will help us identify those responsible and are also liaising with the National Farmers' Union."
