Man dies and three others injured in M54 collision

A man has died and three others have been injured in a crash involving two lorries and two vans on the M54 in Shropshire.

It happened westbound between junctions three and four at about 08:30 BST.

The Highways Agency said the section of motorway was closed westbound and one of the two eastbound lanes were also shut.

The spokesman said it was hoped both carriageways would be reopened about 1800 BST.

The ambulance service said one man was confirmed dead at the scene.

They said a second man was treated for head and leg injuries and was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, for further assessment.

Another patient was taken to The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford after being treated at the scene for a back injury.

A fourth man was treated at the scene for minor injuries, said the ambulance service.
