Second person dies after crash on the A49 in Shropshire

A second person has died following a collision involving four cars on the A49 in Shropshire.

An elderly woman died in hospital shortly after the incident at Bayston Hill at 14:35 BST on Tuesday.

A man, who was in the same car, was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford with critical injuries and died on Wednesday afternoon.

The couple, who have not yet been identified, were from Cheshire, police said.

Two people from one of the other vehicles were airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
