Telford car accident victim's handbag stolen

A thief stole a 70-year-old pedestrian's handbag as she was being treated by paramedics after being hit by a car in Shropshire.

She had serious head and leg injuries following the incident in Lawn Central in Telford town centre on Sunday.

The woman and a man aged 84 were struck by a red Nissan and taken to hospital.

Her bag was later found near the Telford Plaza car park, but the woman's purse, containing about £100, personal documents and bank cards, was missing.

Police described the theft, which happened at about 15:10 BST, as "despicable".

PC Rob Seager said: "The woman had to be treated at the roadside immediately by paramedics.

"Unfortunately an opportunist thief saw fit to steal the woman's bag as she was receiving the care she needed to save her life."

The stolen purse has been described as a black leather purse with a gold clasp.
