Shrewsbury shoppers offered free car parking

Shoppers in Shropshire are to be offered free town centre car parking on Wednesdays in a bid to boost late-night sales in the run up to Christmas.

A number of council-owned car parks in Shrewsbury will be free to use from 16:00 GMT, two hours earlier than normal, from 23 November.

The town's park and ride service will also be free from the same time.

Councillor Simon Jones hoped it would encourage people to "visit Shrewsbury to do their Christmas shopping".

On-street car parking is to remain the same during the festive period.
