Telford gang assault leaves a man critical but stable

A man was treated in hospital for head injuries after being beaten unconscious in Telford, police said.

The 51-year-old was assaulted on Grove Street in St Georges, near The Turf pub, shortly after 21:30 BST on Sunday.

A group of about eight men and women pushed the man to the ground and kicked and punched him.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "He has fractures to both sides of his face, lacerations to his head and cuts, bruises and grazes all over his body."

He was said to be in a critical but stable condition.

A woman who was with the victim suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

The police cordoned off the area for forensic tests.

They are also looking to see if there is any CCTV footage that can help in their investigation.
