Man found dead on Shropshire road is named
Police have named a man with serious head injuries found dead on a road in Shropshire early on Saturday.
The man, named as Dale McNamee, 36, from Harmer Hill, was found on the A458 near Cound at about 04:20 GMT.
Police believe Mr McNamee walked about a mile from Cross Houses before being hit by a vehicle which did not stop.
Detectives are trying to trace two people in a white box van seen travelling towards the scene shortly before the body was found.
A formal identification has not yet taken place, but Mr McNamee's next of kin have been informed.
According to West Mercia Police Mr McNamee was found on the Bridgnorth-bound carriageway of the A458 at Venus Bank, Cound.
Shortly before 04:20 GMT on Saturday a woman driving towards Shrewsbury reported seeing a man in the road who appeared to be trying to get up off the ground, police said.
The woman then flashed her headlights at an oncoming white van.
According to police, Mr McNamee was found a few minutes later.
Det Insp Sarah Wagstaff, from West Mercia Police, said: "Our inquiry is currently focusing on the white box van.
"The driver and his front seat passenger, who were wearing fluorescent jackets, have not yet come forward to speak to us and it is vital that they do so now."
Det Insp Wagstaff said it was a dark, unlit country road with no footpath.
Police are looking at CCTV footage and appealed for anyone with security cameras trained on the A458 between Shrewsbury and Much Wenlock to get in touch.
