Shropshire taxi drivers to demand fares in advance
A campaign to get night time taxi passengers in a Shropshire town to pay their fares "up front" has been backed by the police and the council.
West Mercia Police and Telford & Wrekin council have paid for warning stickers to go in taxis in Telford.
They will warn passengers they must agree and pay their fare in advance between 19:00 and 07:00 GMT.
Sgt Chris Munro said: "This reduces the opportunity for any argument or for the passengers to make off without paying."
Taxi drivers raised the problem with the council and the police at one of their regular licensing meetings.
The money for 1,000 stickers has come from a community safety fund run by the police, the council and other local organisations.
