A Shropshire council has announced plans to spend £6m on improving an area of Telford.

Telford & Wrekin Council is set to invest the money in regnenerating the Brookside area of the town.

The council's cabinet is expected to sign off on the plans on 22 December with public consultation on how the money should be spent to follow.

A spokesman said the plans would focus on improving the services offered to residents locally.

Councillor Arnold England, cabinet member for leisure and well-being, said: "The existing shops, youth and community facilities are of very poor quality and require major investment to deliver a high quality development to improve the area."
