Brian Woodmass jailed for Oswestry partner's manslaughter

A 59-year-old handyman from Shropshire has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing his partner.

The body of 45-year-old Jill Louise Nevitt was found at the couple's home in Orchard Street, Oswestry, on 14 December 2010.

In June her partner Brian Woodmass pleaded not guilty to murder. Earlier he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.

Woodmass was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday.

Psychiatric assessments were carried out on Woodmass and last month the trial judge had accepted it was not in the interests of justice to proceed with a murder trial.
